We learn from the world around us – yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Here are some of the ways in which I embrace learning to inspire and strengthen my passions.
- I didn't study abroad in college. I regret my decision, as travel pushes us beyond our boundaries. In an attempt to "catch up," I've recently traveled to England, Uruguay, Peru, and Hong Kong. Experiencing these diverse countries (and enjoying the food!) has profoundly shaped my understanding of the world and the importance of building relationships every day.
- I didn't grow up with a dog. Fortunately, my dream came true when I adopted Briscoe. A decade later, he continues to teach me life lessons every day.
- I learn a lot from Law & Order. I'm a junkie. And yes, I realize it's not real life. Same goes for Calvin & Hobbes.
- I'm passionate about public service. I am indebted to the Harry S. Truman Foundation and the Truman Scholars Association for fostering my love of community engagement. Organizations I support include the Association for Psychological Science, the Edward M. Kennedy Institute, and the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy.
